Tips on Resume Writing

Grab attention in the first 10 seconds Make your Resume or CV easy to scan. It takes 10 seconds for recruiters to know select or reject a resume for the next stage.

Prioritize Content Focus on your biggest achievements and strengths of your character.

Use Regular Typefaces like Arial or Times New Roman. Non-ordinary fonts make CV look weird.

No Fancy Design Do not use a colored background, fancy fonts or images on your resume. Sure, you might think that the little flowers will cheer up the document, but other people might just throw it away at the sight.

Provide Data Always try to chip in a few numbers to impress your employer.

Don't Mention Salary Talking about salary expectation in CV itself will lower your chances of getting a job significantly.

Highlight Strengths, not Timeline When you have many gaps in your education or employment history, avoid using reverse chronological order. Focus on your successes, strengths and your input in previous jobs.

Proofread Always give your CV to your relative or someone close to proofread before you send it. Errors in CV make you look unprofessional.

No lies, please Seems like a no-brainer, but you would be amused to discover how many people lie in their resumes. Apart from being wrong, most HR departments do background checks these days.

Update your resume regularly Add all the new information that you think is relevant. This is the best way to make sure that you will not end up sending an obsolete document to the employer.

Don't forget your name and Contact details Don't forget the basics. The first thing on your resume should be your name, in larger bold font than the rest of the text. Make sure that your contact details are clearly listed.
